2015 Design Bloggers Conference

Today I am blogging from the Design Bloggers Conference in Atlanta, Georgia and it’s been such a blast!  Coming to events like these and having the opportunity to meet so many people and sharing ideas is truly what keeps the inspiration flowing.  And they certainly keep you stacked from event to event, but you can’t complain when there is a glass of wine waiting for you!  Here are some of the fantastic highlights thus far:

The Madcap Cottage Boys

This morning I was fortunate enough to see John Loecke and Jason Oliver Nixon, the Madcap Cottage Boys.  Their designs are whimsical, so colorful, and full of life.  They are from High Point, but serve an international clientele and are absolutely inspirational!

Bunny Williams

The elegant and timeless designs of Bunny Williams have inspired me in my many years as a designer.  Hearing her speak today was such a fantastic opportunity and hearing her discuss the style of her own homes was very interesting.  She tends not to redecorate often, but upgrades her furniture to allow the space to naturally evolve.  How fantastic!  And don’t get me started on how gorgeous her Punta Cana house is!

Nate Berkus

The stunningly talented Nate Berkus spoke today also.  His eclectic style with bold prints has truly distinguished him as a design leader.  And today it was so wonderful when he got the audience pumped up.  Nate said “Self-empowered design is permission to your home reflect who you are.”  I absolutely love that statement!

Can’t wait to report back with more excitement from the Fest!

Have a great day,

Things We Love: Red Carpet Style

This years Oscars Red Carpet did not disappoint!  We definitely saw some trends in what Hollywood’s leading ladies were wearing, but before we get there I have to gush about my favorite gown of the evening, which was Calvin Klein Collection worn by Lupita Nyong’o.  The gown was adorned in 6,000 Akoya pearls and was absolutely stunning!  She paired it with gorgeous Chopard jewelry.  And, I’ve heard some rumors that this dress was stolen after the award!  Has anyone else heard about that?

As always we saw stunning classic colors but there were a few notable risk takers that really pulled it off.  I thought Kiera Knightley had a fantastic look that complimented her pregnancy figure.  Really reminded me of just how fantastic Natalie Portman looked eight months pregnant when she won the Oscar for Best Actress in Black Swan!

Our Favorite Risk Takers

Getting excited for the Oscars Red Carpet always reminds me that award season is ending…and I already can’t wait for next year!  Were there any looks or trends that caught your eye?  A favorite risk-taker?

Things We Love: Mixed Metallics

Mixed metallics are a hot new trend in the interior design and they are popping up in every room: kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and the foyer.  Every metallic hue can be added to the mix and paired beautifully! Think gold and silver of course,  but don't forget about brass, oil rubbed bronze, rose gold, black iron, copper, and satin nickel to create a unique, bold mixed metallic space.  This look brings a luxurious feel to your space and will be sure to reflect light phenomenally.

This is definitely a departure from our preconceived notion, especially in  the kitchen and bathroom, that you have to pick a finish and stick to it.  By shaking it up and mixing metallics, you can bring added warmth or cool down a space.  It also adds interest that will get your guests talking!

Is this a trend you can get on board with?  Or do you hope this is another one that fades away?  If you're not convinced, check out our Pinterest board and see for yourself!

Have a great day,

Things We Love: White Interiors

I hope everyone is hunkered down today enjoying a much-needed day of rest.  As we all stare out at the snow and ice that have blanketed the South, it’s got me thinking about the color white.  Every year we get excited for the release of Pantone’s Color of the Year, we love seeing exciting pops of color, but what about the color white?  With so much behind the meaning of white, today let’s explore this versatile color!

White is a color that usually isn’t ones favorite as a child; it’s more of an acquired taste.  White reflects a clean and neat personality, with far-sighted knowledge and excellent problem solving skills.  This explains why white in interiors serves as a resting place, to slow down the eye and take in a space.  White is seen as a color that truly feeds the soul and provides the chance for the observer to take in their thoughts.  White also works to make the colors that are combined with it really pop.  Specifically, white combined with black, brown, or grey can create seductive ambiance.  So let’s see how white really works used in diverse interiors!

With so many interesting uses of the color white, do you feel fonder of the color?  Don't forget to check out our Pinterest board dedicated to our favorite white interiors.  Do any of these interiors speak to you?  I’m interested to hear your thoughts!    Stay warm and enjoy the snow day!
